The warm and dreamy vocals of young folk singer Kim André Rysstad and the divine voices of the classically trained Trio Mediaeval offer two breathtaking, but different takes on Norwegian mediaeval song.

The artists will appear at RASA Centre for World Cultures in Utrecht on February 14 and at Concertgebouw (Kleine Zaal) in Amsterdam February 17.

Trio Mediæval
Founded in Oslo in 1997, Trio Mediæval has developed three distinct strands of repertoire: polyphonic medieval music from England and France, contemporary works and Norwegian medieval ballads and songs. The group's initial phase was inspired by intense periods of work at the Hilliard Summer Festival in England and Germany, and subsequently with Linda Hirst and John Potter. Trio Mediaeval has given concerts and radio broadcasts throughout Europe, in the USA and Canada. The ensemble released its first CD on ECM Records in October 2001.

Kim André Rysstad
Kim André Rysstad, born in Rysstad, Setesdal, is a young traditional vocalist who in a short time has earned a reputation as a highly respected performer with his own distinctive idiom. He presents beautiful, story-rich Norwegian traditional dramatic ballads, largely unaccompanied but with occasional minimal fiddle, guitar or banjo. He released his debut recording, Tak hardt uti hand, in autumn 2007 and won price for “Solo Album of the Year” at the Norwegian Folk Music Awards 2008.

About RASA
RASA Centre for World Cultures presents performing arts from around the world. The Sanskrit word ‘rasa’, originating in the classical Indian appreciation of art, points at what the spectator experiences through the emotions evoked by the artist. Quality, diversity and innovation characterize RASA’s highly varied presentations, in which justice is done to heterogeneous art disciplines, traditions and styles. And RASA’s audience too is just as diverse with regard to its interests and cultural backgrounds.

RASA is a well-equipped venue in the centre of Utrecht, which can accommodate 200 to 350 people. It presents some 100 music-concerts, dance/theatre performances, club-nights, literary events, lectures, workshops and festivals every year. Prominent artists as well as lesser-known but promising talents from all over the world hold the floor. They offer a wide variety of artistic and cultural manifestations, ranging from pure classical to modern or popular; from authentic forms to a mixture of Western and non-European styles.
